About the role

  • The Maintenance Mechanic I plays a key role in supporting both field and shop operations by maintaining, repairing, and overhauling a wide range of tools and equipment used across the organization.
  • This position is responsible for examining, dismantling, assembling, adjusting, and testing tools to ensure safe and reliable performance.
  • The role involves operating power tools, performing various shop and field duties, and assisting with operations, maintenance, and construction activities as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Able to professionally represent Company and maintain good working relationships while communicating with other employees and contractors.
  • May be assigned to related business support and administrative activities (ex. backend meter processing, backend corrosion processing, backend leak/damager prevention processing, peer safety observations, vehicle clean-out, cross functional training activities, etc.)
  • Drive vehicles to job sites.

Requirements

  • Internal Employees: Must currently be a crew assistant or greater in Below Ground Field Ops with at least 2 years consecutive experience & currently have a CDL-Class B
  • External Employees: Must have at least 2 year's experience drilling, tapping and stopping pipe and/or fittings using equipment utilized by the Welding, Tie In & Fabrication Shop on Washington Gas facilities
  • FMC, CDL-Class B, Operating Engineer-Class A, PPJ-Fusion and Forklift qualification are required.

Skills

  • Use power equipment and machinery: saws, drill presses, cranes, forklift, ironworker, hydraulic presses.
  • Use numerous hand tools, pneumatic, hydraulic and electric.
  • Specialized Tasks:
  • Fuse plastic mains and manufactured plastic fittings.
  • Monitor pressure gauges continuously during stop-off operations.
  • Operate core drill.
  • Operate equipment utilized to reduce carbon emissions including drawdown compressor and flaring.
  • Cut steel, plastic and cast-iron pipe by various means/methods.
