About the role

  • The Recreation Therapy Aide (RTA) supports the delivery of both planned and spontaneous recreational opportunities that promote residents' engagement, independence, and overall well-being.
  • This role helps residents maintain and develop skills, build meaningful relationships, and foster social connections within a supportive care environment.

Requirements

  • A diploma or degree from a post-secondary program in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field from a recognized college or university.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic care environment.
  • Must be able to provide a current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Record Check, or be willing to obtain one.
  • Maintain accurate and timely departmental records and complete all required documentation, including support Resident Assessments/Re-Assessments and Care Planning, Progress Notes, Welbi entries, and monthly calendars.
  • Current enrollment in a post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree program in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field, with the expectation of program completion within three years of hire.
  • Knowledge of and experience in delivering recreation and leisure services in a healthcare or long-term care setting is considered an asset.
