About the role

  • These positions are located in the Department of Veterans Affairs at the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System in the engineering department in Sioux Falls, SD.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work exerts moderate to arduous effort involving working, standing, bending, stooping, lifting, and crawling while performing their duties at the Medical Center.

Requirements

  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional
  • Is also required to work in patient areas which are contaminated with various diseases including HIV, TB, and is issued personal protective equipment/clothing to be worn.
  • While a specific length of training and experience is not required, your responses to the questionnaire must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume.
  • A current, valid state-issued Driver's License is required for this position.
  • If an interview is requested, you will be required to provide a copy of your current, valid state-issued Driver's License.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • Must be capable of climbing over and under equipment, working in confined spaces, crawl spaces, and other isolated areas.
  • Must be able to work for extended periods in uncomfortable positions and conditions.
  • Must be able to lift loads up to 40 pounds unassisted and 80 pounds with assistance.

  • Work will be performed inside the shop or Medical Center areas that are adequately heated, cooled, and lit but on occasion must work in service/utility areas outside with marginal/minimal ventilation.
  • Work is performed throughout the Medical Center including patient care areas.
  • At times works under conditions of extreme stress and must be able to interact effectively with Medical Center staff and perform work in a calm manner.
