About the role
- The Tax Manager is responsible for managing tax compliance, planning, and consulting services for a diverse client base of individuals, businesses, trusts, and nonprofit organizations.
- In a smaller CPA firm, the Tax Manager is expected to be actively involved in technical tax work while contributing to practice development and operational efficiency.

- Manage multiple tax engagements from planning through completion while meeting deadlines and budget expectations.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop tax staff and seniors by reviewing work, providing feedback, and supporting professional growth.
- Collaborate with partners on tax strategies, firm initiatives, and process improvements.
- Maintain accurate engagement documentation and comply with firm quality control standards.
- Support year-round client advisory services, including estimated tax planning, entity selection, succession planning, and business consulting.
Requirements
- 6+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience.
- Experience reviewing complex tax returns across multiple entity types.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations.
- Experience with tax preparation and research software (e.g., CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, UltraTax CS, Lacerte, or similar).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.

Nice to have
- Review and prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, trusts, estates, and nonprofit organizations.
- Provide proactive tax planning and consulting to minimize client tax liabilities and identify planning opportunities.
- Research complex tax issues and communicate findings and recommendations to clients and firm leadership.
- Coordinate workflow, assign projects, and monitor engagement progress throughout the tax season.
- Assist clients with IRS and state tax notices, examinations, and correspondence.
- Stay current on changes in tax laws, regulations, and industry developments, ensuring compliance and advising clients accordingly.
- Identify opportunities for additional services and participate in business development and client retention efforts.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
