Responsibilities
- Performs laboratory experiments related to development of robust downstream processes for manufacturing of human therapeutic proteins produced in recombinant mammalian cells and bacteria
- Designs, executes, and analyzes experiments at laboratory scale.
- Develops and characterizes scaled-down models for downstream unit operations.
- Supports identification and optimization of alternative laboratory methods and/or equipment to improve work efficiency and throughput.
Requirements
- Knowledge of protein chemistry and protein structure/function analysis is essential.
- Bachelors or advanced degree in Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering or other relevant area
- Experience performing a variety of assays including various HPLC methods, capillary electrophoresis, UV/VIS spectroscopy, gel electrophoresis.
- Experience operating downstream equipment such as GE Akta, high pressure homogenizers, Pall and Millipore TFF systems, instrumented reactors for protein refolding studies, etc.
- Understanding and experience with development of scalable process IEX, HIC, Affinity, Mixed Mode, etc, chromatography operations.
- Knowledge of cGMP requirements.
- Theoretical knowledge and practical experience in protein downstream processing as demonstrated by presentations and/or publication record.
- Possesses knowledge of and experience with all types of chromatography, centrifugation and filtration techniques.
- Possesses knowledge of and experience with protein analytical techniques such as HPLC, SDS-PAGE, IEF, UV/VIS/fluorescence spectroscopy, etc, and is familiar with scientific and biotechnology industry literature.
