About the role
- Spellbook is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to join our team.
- In this role, you'll work directly with large law firms and in-house legal teams to integrate Spellbook into real-world enterprise environments and workflows.
- As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll be a critical member of our growing engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Build integrations and AI-native workflows: Integrate Spellbook with document management systems (e.g. iManage, NetDocuments), identity systems, and internal APIs.
- Design and implement workflow-heavy solutions (approvals, routing, permissions, auditability) tailored to real enterprise constraints and tools.
- Drive adoption and impact: Work closely with end users (lawyers and legal ops), iterate rapidly based on feedback, and ensure solutions are reliable, performant, and actively used.
Requirements
- 3-7 years of experience building and shipping production software systems.
- Strong backend or full-stack engineering experience.
- Experience working with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Strong ownership, with the ability to take vague problems from definition to shipped solution.
- Experience with enterprise SaaS deployments.
- Experience with security, compliance, and data handling practices such as SOC2.
- Experience in fast-paced startup environments.
- Experience building APIs and integrating with external systems.
- Exposure to LLM systems (e.g. RAG, prompting, evaluations).
- Comfortable working directly with enterprise customers.
- Familiarity with legal technology or document-heavy workflows.
- Experience designing and building infrastructure on AWS with CDK.
Compensation
- Spellbook uses industry benchmark data to establish compensation bands for all roles.
- The salary range listed for a position reflects the expected total wage range for the role-including base salary and on-target commissions, where applicable-and may span multiple career levels.
- Final compensation is determined during the interview process based on factors such as experience, skills, scope, and role level.
- In addition to base salary and applicable commissions, total rewards may include equity, health and wellness benefits, and other company programs.

- Partner closely with customers to understand legal workflows and technical environments.
- Lead end-to-end implementation of Spellbook in complex enterprise organizations and translate ambiguous requirements into production-ready systems.
- Tune model inference, augment context, and adapt the product experience to meet specific customer needs across deployments.
