About the role

  • The Reinsurance and Portfolio Underwrit er is responsible for underwriting and monitoring assumed reinsurance transactions, program and MGA business, and providing underwriting diligence on strategic initiatives in support of the Reinsurance and Portfolio Management department.
  • This role operates with broad scope across multiple underwriting workstreams rather than a single fixed book, and requires the ability to evaluate risk quality and make sound underwriting decisions across unfamiliar lines and deal structures with minimal lead time.
  • This role allows the Partner Programs and Ceded Reinsurance teams to remain focused on their core relationship and portfolio responsibilities by absorbing time-sensitive underwriting evaluation work as it arises.

Responsibilities

  • Provide underwriting judgment and risk assessment support on strategic initiatives, including partnerships, investments, and acquisitions.

  • Support work across both Owned and Partner Programs teams as needed, based on project requirements.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of P&C underwriting experience, spanning both property and casualty lines
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Demonstrated ability to underwrite unfamiliar lines of business and deal structures with minimal ramp-up time
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently without a fixed book or single line of accountability
  • Strong analytical judgment for evaluating risk quality in non-standard or unfamiliar structures

Compensation

  • The Morristown, NJ base pay range for this role is $175,000-$250,000.
