About the role
- This role is responsible for regulatory compliance, risk reduction and continuous improvement in site safety performance.
- The position is based in Sylacauga, Alabama.
Responsibilities
- Become a subject matter expert of Imerys' protocols concerning environmental, industrial hygiene, and safety programs and procedures, and support site interpretation and implementation.
- Maintain a strong field presence and work closely with operations, maintenance, and employees to identify hazards, improve work practices and reinforce site safety expectations.
- Oversees, prepares, maintains and submits all safety and environmental reports and permits in a timely manner in accordance with Federal, State, and Local H&S regulations.
- Support the development, planning, delivery and review of HS training.
- Lead and participate in site audits and inspections and support tracking and implementation of corrective actions.
- Support contractor safety management processes, including onboarding, compliance verification, and field oversight.
- Work closely with peers, Regional and Site Management to develop, implement, measure, and monitor the success of HS in their respective region.
- Manages & maintains the relationship with all applicable regulatory bodies (e.g. county, state, federal)
- Manages workers compensation process, reports, etc.
- Imerys draws on its understanding of applications, technological knowledge, and expertise in material science to deliver solutions which contribute essential to customers' products and their performance.
Requirements
- Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions.
- Strong understanding of Federal and State Safety regulations and maintaining compliance.
- Experience improving safety performance through employee engagement, risk reduction, and operational discipline.
- Demonstrated experience with the implementation and sustainment of HS programs
- Ability to work effectively across site, regional and global teams while supporting HS processes and initiatives
- Excellent people skills and ability to align people and resources toward organizational success.
- Experience in interacting with and influencing all levels of an organization
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
Nice to have
- HS certifications such as CSP, CIH, or CHMM are preferred.
- 60% in an industrial minerals processing plant or a mine environment
- 40% in an office type environment

- Under the general direction of the EHS Director-USA & Canada, and in alignment with site leadership, the Health and Safety Manager leads Health and Safety programs for the Lompoc operation.
- Bachelor's Degree, appropriate technical discipline (such as Environmental, Health, Safety, or related area) preferred.
- Minimum 5 years experience in Safety and Health roles in a mining, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
- Maintains and ensures current working knowledge of Federal, State and local safety, environmental and occupational health regulations (e.g., MSHA, OSHA).
