About the role

  • We are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Substation Relay Technician to support the safe and reliable operation of substations and distribution equipment.
  • This technician installs, maintains, calibrates, modifies, troubleshoots, and repairs a variety of electronic, electrical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems within a substation environment.
  • The role also includes support for project management functions such as vendor and contractor coordination, scheduling, inspection, testing, and commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, test, and maintain protective relaying equipment in substations.
  • Perform functional testing on control circuits for relay panels, transformers, and circuit breakers.
  • Develop and execute relay macros and testing routines to verify protection scheme integrity.
  • Develop written standard commissioning, testing, and maintenance procedures.
  • Review relay settings and logic equations to ensure alignment with system protection designs.
  • Create, review, and execute substation equipment isolation and restoration switching procedures.
  • Lead safety briefings and maintain a strong safety culture on job sites.
  • Investigate electrical issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Use manufacturer documentation to support relay testing and maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and internal safety training.

Requirements

  • Strictly adhere to all site safety protocols and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times (e.g., safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots).
