About the role

A Test Technician at The Boring Company conducts experiments to increase tunneling speed, reduce cost, and increase reliability.
The current schedule (subject to change) requires flexibility in hours and shift availability.
Troubleshoot, repair and overhaul of mechanical systems on test stands such as pumps, chillers, or gearboxes and electrical systems on test stands such as IO, PLCs, and power distribution.

The test engineering team designs experiments and relies on Test Technicians to diligently conduct the experiments and provide feedback to improve future experiments.
This position may also involve field support to underground tunneling operations.
Conduct experiments that serve to optimize the tunneling process (increase speed, reduce cost).
Conduct experiments that validate machine reliability.
Maintain and upgrade test stands and testing equipment.
Ability to maintain a safe and clean working environment while adhering to company policies, quality policies and industry standards.

5+ years of maintenance technician experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
2+ years of experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and/or electrical repair.
Certificate or studies related to roles and responsibilities or basic qualifications.
Ability to write detailed repair reports (advanced MS Office skills).
Experience with hand/power tools, forklifts, and other heavy equipment.
Detail-oriented, organized, and experience operating at a high degree of urgency.
Additional Requirements Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. unassisted Ability to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces.
Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
Ability to travel for short and extended trips as needed.
Ability to work outdoors in heavy construction areas.

Preferred Skills and Experience Associate degree in physics, chemistry, math and/or engineering.
Ability to read engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, SLDs, and CAD drawings (hydraulic and pneumatic drawings a plus) Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
