About the role

  • Mattel is currently seeking a Quality Engineer II in El Segundo, CA.
  • This role is a key member of the corporate Quality Engineering leadership team, reporting to the Sr.
  • The Quality Engineer II contributes to product development from concept through launch, ensuring toys and consumer products meet global safety regulations and internal quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Support development and maintenance of Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) and Primary Concerns Documents (PCDs) within eQMS systems, ensuring alignment with product safety, performance, and play expectations
  • Participate in concept and design reviews, providing input on safety, durability, regulatory compliance, and consumer experience
  • Partner with internal labs and third-party testing facilities to execute product validation, review test plans and reports, and ensure compliance with regulatory and brand requirements
  • Conduct investigations into product failures, safety issues, and manufacturing defects using root cause analysis tools; document findings and support corrective actions
  • Support risk management activities (e.g., FMEA) to identify and mitigate product and process risks throughout development and production

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Materials, or Electrical Engineering (or related field)
  • Knowledge of global toy safety standards and regulations (ASTM F963, CPSIA, EN71, ISO, etc.)
  • Experience working with internal labs and/or third-party testing laboratories
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes (e.g., plastics, textiles, electronics, packaging)
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and quality documentation
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and data interpretation
  • Familiarity with risk management and root cause analysis tools (FMEA, 5 Whys, Fishbone, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret and apply global toy safety and consumer product regulations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions

Nice to have

  • 2-5 years of experience in quality engineering, product development, or manufacturing (toy or consumer products industry preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • experience with statistical tools (e.g., Minitab) preferred
