About the role
- Demonstrate competency in reading grade stakes, basic plans, or work instructions related to equipment operation.
- Operate equipment in close proximity to personnel, utilities, structures, and active operations while maintaining situational awareness.
- Follow direction from the Project Foreman and other senior personnel, while demonstrating initiative, accountability, and consistent productivity on the jobsite.
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with multiple construction trades to support efficient and safe project execution.
- Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance in accordance with project schedules.
- The Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a variety of heavy construction equipment in support of civil construction projects throughout Alaska.
- Maintain a constant state of alertness and perform all duties in a safe manner, following company safety policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Ability to pass a drug, driving and background screenings.

Skills
- Knowledge of the safe and proper operation of heavy construction equipment and related safety practices.
- Working knowledge of construction materials, methods, terminology, and standard practices used in the construction industry.
- Knowledge of basic preventative maintenance principles for heavy equipment, including inspections, lubrication, and fluid checks.
- Knowledge of jobsite safety requirements, including hazard recognition, PPE use, and safe work practices in extreme weather conditions.
- Proficiency in the use of hand tools, power tools, and equipment controls relevant to construction and equipment operations.
- Skill in organizing work tasks, establishing priorities, meeting deadlines, and managing time effectively.
- Skill in operating multiple types of heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, dozers, haul trucks, graders, and skid-steers.
- Skill in performing accurate equipment inspections and completing required logs, reports, and documentation.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with supervisors, spotters, and crew members on active jobsites.
- Ability to remain productive and focused while working under pressure and in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while remaining productive, accountable, and safety focused.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret safety rules, regulations, instruction manuals, blueprints, and technical specifications.
