About the role
- The construction skilled laborer helps the pipe layer by performing duties requiring techni c al experience.
- Duties include assisting with laying pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains.
- S/he may assist in the performance of any combination of the following tasks: grade trenches or culverts, position pipe, or seal joints.
Responsibilities
- May perform flagging duties to control and maintain flow of traffic in work zone.
- Performs general construction work (using hand tools, lifting materials on average up to 50 pounds) under direction of Pipe Layer, Crew Leader, Foreman or Supervisor.
- Perform other duties, as and when assigned.
Requirements
- Must have physical ability to stand strenuous and dangerous work environment.
- Must be comfortable working in 15ft -20ft trenches and other confined spaces.
- Must have access to own transportation to reach non-standard work sites during non-standard hours.

- Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms
- Frequently required to stand, talk and hear
- Occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift.
- Must have physical ability to stand strenuous and dangerous work environment. Must be comfortable working in 15ft -20ft trenches and other confined spaces.
- Has physical strength dig and perform general labor with laborer crews, including digging by hand and lifting / pushing / pulling materials.
- Able to communicate effectively with others and work cooperatively in teams ( including resolving basic conflicts with or without the assistance of management ).
- Handle emergency situations, work pressure and stress.
- Able to solve basic, common-sense problems using experience and construction knowledge.
- Must have a flexible schedule ( make work irregular or odd hours in outdoor work sites, depending upon project needs or weather ), including nights and weekends.
