About the role

  • The Ship Fund compensates victims of pollution from the discharge of oil from ships in Canadian waters, whereas the Rail Fund compensates victims of damages caused by a major rail way accident involving crude oil.
  • The Funds are managed as separate entities by an Administrator and a small team of dedicated staff, supported by a shared Corporate Services team.
  • Approximately 25 employees, consultants and students occupy a single office location in downtown Ottawa.

Responsibilities

  • Under the general supervision of the Director, Finance and Corporate Services and working closely with the Finance Officer, the Financial Support Officer will:
  • Finance Support Duties
  • Support the preparation and reconciliation of financial records, reports, and expenditures
  • Maintain accurate financial records and filing systems
  • Help maintain inventory records
  • Organize and maintain financial filing systems

Requirements

  • Diploma or undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Experience working with accounting software such as Sage, Simply Accounting, QuickBooks, or similar systems
  • Required - Excellent communication skills in English or French
  • Required - Bilingualism
  • Experience using M365 applications
  • Experience with federal government procedures and policies

Compensation

  • The starting salary ranges from $ 55,000 to $71,500 for a 35-hour/week, depending on the experience and subject to position review and update.
