Responsibilities

  • Performs venipuncture and capillary puncture according to written procedures.
  • Performs data input and data retrieval from laboratory and hospital information systems.
  • Maintains quality control and assists in performance of Quality Improvement.
  • Maintains continued competence of technical skills and professional image.
  • Accurately maintains department files.
  • Consistently maintains a neat work area.
  • Under the direction of appropriately licensed personnel, may perform tests and procedures where assigned in the facility using protocols prescribed in procedure and instrument operations manuals (e.g. "waived" point-of-care-testing).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Required: CA Phlebotomy I certification
  • Required: High School Diploma
  • Processes and delivers specimens as required.
  • Attends all required laboratory safety meetings.
  • Orients and trains new employees to departmental procedures when required.
  • May be required to work at another site if needed.

  • Preferred: Medical office experience
  • Communicates effectively with patients, public and healthcare personnel.
  • Essential
  • Greets patients courteously and accurately records all pertinent demographics in a timely manner.

Nice to have

  • Able to organize work, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • May require frequent travel-must have a valid California driver's license, transportation, and auto insurance.
  • Accuracy in the identification and transcription of numbers and names.
