About the role
- This position may be filled as an Engineer I or one level higher as an Engineer II depending on the experience level of the selected candidate.
- The Engineer I position is the entry level of the Engineering classification hierarchy.
- This role requires the ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.
Responsibilities
- Assists in providing engineering support in transmission line design, including performing basic calculations and analysis under direction of senior and lead engineers
- Supports development of conceptual and detailed designs, including structures, foundations, and electrical clearances
- Participates in project teams to support planning, design, and execution activities
- Supports construction activities by responding to field questions and assisting with issue resolution
- Assists in evaluating design options and identifying solutions to engineering problems
- Develops technical skills through training, mentoring, and on-the-job experience
- Maintains accurate records, files, and documentation
- Builds positive working relationships to support coordination of work activities
- Demonstrates professionalism and supports company goals
Requirements
- Qualified candidates should have a strong civil engineering foundation, sound engineering judgment, and a clear desire to develop the technical skills required for transmission line design.
- Applicants must be able to work effectively with individuals from diverse socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds and possess strong written and oral communication skills.
- Preference will be given to candidates with a Civil Engineering degree or demonstrated civil-focused experience.
- Basic/Required Responsibilities - Engineer I
- Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
- Basic/Required Responsibilities - Engineer II
- Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
Nice to have
- Internship, co-op, or academic experience in the utility, civil infrastructure, structural, geotechnical, transportation, construction, or land development industries
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- Basic understanding of engineering codes and standards
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Interest in obtaining FE/EIT certification
- Employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
