About the role
- They participate in safe, efficient and cost-effective anesthesia care.
- The employee may set-up drips, A-Lines and Central Lines.
- This employee uses sterile techniques to gown and glove, set up lines and assist the anesthesia provider with placement of lines in patient.
Responsibilities
- Maintains confidentiality and protects sensitive data at all times
- Works collaboratively and supports efforts of team members
- Performs or assists with the emergency procedure for Malignant Hyperthermia, as necessary
- Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
- Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- The employee assists the anesthesia provider in the acquisition, preparation, and application of the anesthesia equipment and supplies required for the safe administration of anesthesia.
- Ability to logically troubleshoot an issue to resolution
- Must have ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Must have the ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deliver successful results
Nice to have
- High school diploma or GED/equivalent (required)
- College experience/ courses in Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology (preferred)
- Prior experience as an anesthesia technician or in a patient-care role (preferred)
- Knowledge of pharmacology (preferred)
- Basic Life Saving (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)
- Certification by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologist (ASAT) (preferred)
Skills
- Knowledge of the emergency procedure for malignant hyperthermia
- Knowledge of anesthesia equipment
- Knowledge of troubleshooting low and high pressure in anesthesia machines
- Understanding of sterile technique
- Must possess organizational skills which are essential for stocking of anesthesia carts and setting up lines
- Must be able to break down complex tasks into manageable parts in a systematic, detailed way and considers input from several sources
- Must be detail orientation in gathering relevant data while attending to essential details; checks work for accuracy and quality
- Must be comfortable working with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint if necessary
- Must have the ability to learn and use the electronic documentation system appropriately
- Must have the capacity to learn other relevant systems and databases, as needed
