About the role

The student also assists in laboratory procedures including glassware cleaning, slide cleaning and coverslipping, reagent preparation, and assisting laboratory staff with various sample processing procedures.

Student laboratory technicians work under the direction of the Lab manager and work closely with Laboratory Directors, Lead technologists and other lab staff.
The student laboratory technologist provides clerical support including specimen accessioning, data entry, filing, responding to telephone inquiries, and other clerical support tasks as needed.
The student performs and documents quality control, quality assurance and preventative maintenance on instrumentation.

Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions

Enrolled in a four year or two-year science related field.
Math skills required (equation solving, comprehension of percent and dilutions).
Basic knowledge of metric system required.

The laboratory also provides training for residents, medical students, and medical technology students.
The student medical laboratory technician works under the direction of the Laboratory Directors, Lab manager and Lead technologists.
