About the role
- Join the Medicaid and Long-Term Care team at DHHS as a Medicaid Policy and Communications Intern.
- This internship offers hands-on experience supporting Medicaid communications, stakeholder engagement, policy messaging, and external communication materials.
- The intern will assist with communication activities related to state and federal Medicaid program initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Support the development of external communication materials related to Medicaid policy and program updates.
- Assist with meeting planning, member support, meeting material preparation, and coordinating follow ups to support Medicaid's Advisory Committees.
- Support communication planning for Medicaid-related implementation activities.
- Help prepare communication materials for providers, advocacy organizations, community partners, sister agencies, and other external stakeholders.
- Support stakeholder engagement activities, including meeting preparation, agenda development, notes, follow-up items, and tracking stakeholder questions.
- Organize and maintain communication trackers, stakeholder lists, project materials, and shared resources.
- Practical experience developing external communication and outreach materials.
- Opportunities to support communication planning for major state agency initiatives.
- Meaningful experience supporting communication efforts that help partners and the public better understand Medicaid programs.
Nice to have
- Experience drafting written materials for broad audiences, such as newsletters, briefs, social media content, presentations, reports, or public-facing summaries.
- Ability to translate complex information into plain language.
- Comfort reviewing source materials and identifying key takeaways for external audiences.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with Nebraska Medicaid, state government, or the legislative process is helpful but not required.
