About the role

The Transit Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating daily transit operations on and off the Liberty University campus.
The role requires flexibility to work during school breaks, weekends, holidays, and in emergency situations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position is responsible for 20+ staff.

Performs duties of a Transit Supervisor while on a set scheduled shift or on a rotating scheduled shift; this is to include weekends and weeknights on and off regular school hours.
Comes up and implements a "relief drivers' program" in the event that a driver is unable to work their assigned shift.
Drive fixed routes or special shuttles on an as-needed and/or as emergency needs arise.
This includes supervising bus operators, dispatchers, and support personnel; ensuring compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations; and maintaining efficient and safe transit services.

Works with Transit management to ensure all Liberty Transit commercial vehicles meet or exceed FMCSA standards and are kept in compliance with said standards through all necessary inspections as required by the FMCSA.
As Essential Personnel, you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergencies, including clean-up required because of severe weather incidents.
Minimum of 3 years in transit operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
Use of one's personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position.
Proof of a valid Virginia Commercial driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Director of the Transit Dept.
Must be familiar with the standard concepts, practices, and procedures of the Transit Department.
Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED
Associate's or bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements
FMCSA certification preferred.

Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and transit management software.
Ability to make quick decisions and solve problems effectively.
Knowledge of FMCSA regulations and transit safety standards.
Communication and Comprehension
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information.
Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent computer skills.
