Responsibilities

  • Monitor, diagnose, and implement corrective actions for building electrical systems-including switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, distribution panels, and life safety systems-to ensure reliable operation across the Museum's 750,000 square feet of facilities.
  • Complete work orders efficiently and perform preventative maintenance on electrical and related mechanical systems to minimize downtime and maintain a safe and comfortable environment for visitors and staff.
  • Trusted by each sector, we are ideally positioned to convene, inspire, and create meaningful experiences for all.
  • Within the Museum of Science, the Facilities team plays a critical role in maintaining and advancing the infrastructure that supports one of the region's most visited cultural institutions.
  • Our team manages complex building systems, campus infrastructure, and capital improvements across a highly dynamic environment that welcomes millions of guests each year.
  • The Electrical Systems Technician I plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Museum's electrical infrastructure and related building systems.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of electrical distribution systems up to 480V, including switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, generators, UPS systems, and automatic transfer switches.
  • Massachusetts Licensed Electrician OR completion of required classroom hours with the ability to obtain an Electrical License within 18 months of employment
  • Experience with generators, UPS systems, fire alarm systems, and motor control equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and diagrams
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, diagnostic equipment, ladders, and maintenance equipment

Nice to have

  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Experience with Johnson Controls Metasys or similar systems
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems and life safety systems
