About the role
- Muon Space is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer to join our growing team in San Jose, CA.
- You will work closely with experienced engineers across various disciplines to bring innovative satellite systems to life.
- This position is hybrid and requires working on-site in our San Jose, CA office three days per week.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design and development of electrical systems for spacecraft avionics, including areas such as flight computers, power distribution, guidance and navigation, sensors, actuators, and communication systems.
- Bring-up, testing, and validation of newly designed hardware.
- Collaborate with software engineers on the integration and testing of hardware and software components.
- Build and test early hardware prototypes to evaluate design concepts and mitigate risks.
- Contribute to the creation of design documentation, test procedures, and reports.
- Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback.

Requirements
- 5-8 years of experience in hardware engineering, preferably with exposure to electronic systems (relevant internships and academic projects will be considered).
- Familiarity with electronic components, circuits, and test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies).
- Experience with embedded systems, embedded programming concepts and comfortable in a Linux development environment
- Familiarity with environmental testing considerations (e.g., vibration, thermal, EMI).
- Experience with power electronics for space applications (e.g., batteries, GaN switching converters, load switch design)
- Experience with FPGAs, SoC, or embedded linux platforms
- Leadership experience in clubs or on small teams
- Prefer, but don't require B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Expert level knowledge in schematic capture and PCB layout software (e.g., Altium, Cadence/Orcad).
- Understanding of microcontrollers and common communication interfaces (e.g., UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet).
- Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to engineering challenges.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A strong desire to learn and contribute in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Exposure to scripting languages like Python for test automation or data analysis.
Compensation
- The salary range for this role is $186,000 - $202,000, plus a competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package.
- Final compensation will be determined based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process.
- At Muon salary is only part of our total compensation package.
