Responsibilities

  • Create Unforgettable Guest Experiences Guide guests one-on-one through furnace glassblowing and/or flameworking projects.
  • Help guests create a variety of glass objects, including ornaments, flowers, pumpkins, vessels, paperweights, beads, and pendants.
  • Support longer, immersive experiences by coaching guests through every stage of creating a blown glass vessel.
  • Lead or assist with sandblasting, engraving, fused glass, and other specialty projects as trained.
  • Prepare materials, maintain equipment, and help ensure workshops are clean, organized, and operating efficiently.
  • Maintain exceptional safety standards while working around hot glass and specialized equipment.
  • Support programs that expand access and grow the diversity of The Studio community.
  • Contribute to Museum initiatives and perform additional duties as assigned.

  • The Corning Museum of Glass is seeking a MYOG (Make Your Own Glass) Workshop Associate to join The Studio team in Corning, New York.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with glassblowing and/or flameworking, including safely operating related equipment.
  • Ability to work directly with beginner guests while maintaining a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint.
  • 50,000+ objects representing more than 3,500 years of history are included in the Museum's collection -ranging from a portrait of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh to a 200-inch telescope lens to contemporary sculpture.

  • What We're Looking For Required Qualifications Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications Experience with sandblasting, glass fusing, engraving, or related equipment.
  • The employee is occasionally required to remain in a stationary position, ascend/descend, detect/distinguish (impaired olfactory sense is potentially problematic for workplace safety).
  • The employee is frequently required to move/transport up to 50 pounds.

Nice to have
