About the role
- KIPP has a 25-year track record of preparing students for success in college and life.
- Currently, KIPP Miami educates students in grades K-4 at KIPP Royalty Academy and 5-8 students at KIPP Courage Academy.
- For example, use clear hand signals and verbal cues to tell pedestrians when to wait or cross, and politely instruct drivers as needed.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a visible, alert presence to make sure all pedestrians cross streets securely under your supervision.
- Maintain calm and patience, even during heavy traffic, modeling respect and caring in all interactions.
- Work in coordination with school staff and, if applicable, local law enforcement or crossing guard supervisors to manage the drop-off/pick-up process.
- Build positive relationships with students, families, and neighbors.
Requirements
- Background Check: Ability to meet all background screening requirements for working in a Florida school.
- Act promptly to maintain flow of traffic and keep students safe and stop vehicles as required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to give clear, firm instructions while maintaining a courteous and friendly demeanor.
- Familiarity with KIPP Miami's mission and values, and a desire to uphold our Heartbeat principles, will help you thrive in this role.
Nice to have
- Florida School Crossing Guard Certification is a plus.
- Candidates without certification must be willing to complete the required training program administered by Miami-Dade College
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years old (required for school crossing guards).
