Located within the Central Treatment Facility, the school also supports students housed in the Central Detention Facility.
Develop, review, and update IEPs in compliance with IDEA.

Site Description The Maya Angelou Academy at the DC Department of Corrections is an alternative school that serves incarcerated men and women aged 18-22 with individualized education plans.
Designed to meet the unique needs of justice-involved students requiring special education, the academy provides educational opportunities regardless of their academic history or current standing.
Position Overview The Special Education Teacher/Case Manager will provide individualized instruction and case management services to students within a secure facility.
In one class period, the Special Education Teacher/Case Manager will support scholars enrolled in multiple courses-including accelerated offerings-in the following content areas: English/ELA, math, science, and history.
Adapt and/or modify lessons to accommodate scholars' varied learning styles, abilities, and academic levels.
Ensure high-quality instructional materials comply with organization, facility, district, and federal education regulations.
Collaboration, Support, and Guidance Work closely with colleagues, leadership, and facility staff to ensure delivery of a well-rounded educational program.
Other Duties as Assigned Tasks that may not directly align with your job description but are vital and serve to maintain a safe and effective teaching and learning environment for scholars and staff.
