the lottery is wage-weighted — each level is one more entry
The bottom of this range ($30,000) is below the Level I prevailing wage of $58,947. An H-1B cannot be filed below the prevailing wage, so an offer at the floor of this band could not be sponsored as posted.
DOL prevailing wage, 2026-27 wage year · Graphic Designers (27-1024) · San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont, CA. Wage level is derived by USCIS from the offered wage, occupation and worksite; the occupation shown is inferred from the job title.

About the role
- We believe multimodality is critical for intelligence, and the next step beyond language models comes from vision.
- This is a craft-first role for someone who cares deeply about the details that make a product feel exceptional.
- We ship continuously and iterate from what is live, so this is a role for someone who moves quickly and holds the bar while doing it.
Responsibilities
- Build and own the design system. Systematize the visual language in Figma, defining tokens, components, and usage guidelines that the whole team can build from.
- Bring the design system to life.
- Using AI coding tools like Cursor or Claude Code, build a live, interactive version of the design system that engineers and designers will use when building new features.
- This does not require deep coding expertise, but it does require the willingness and ability to build real things with AI.
- Audit and elevate the product's visual design.
Requirements
- You have 7+ years of experience in visual and UI design, with a portfolio that demonstrates exceptional craft across typography, color, layout, and interaction.
- You have an unusually high craft ceiling.
- Your work doesn't just look good, it has a point of view, and you can explain why a decision is right rather than just what it looks like.
- You are comfortable directing AI toward a specific goal and iterating until the result meets your standard.
- A portfolio showing your experience in design systems is required for consideration.
- Experience designing for desktop applications.
- Review the full product experience with fresh eyes, identify where the visual quality falls short, and drive meaningful improvements across typography, color, iconography, spacing, and component design.
Skills
- This fits someone who thinks in systems and can defend why a decision is right, not just how it looks.
- It will not suit someone who prefers one-off screens to a coherent system, or who is comfortable shipping work that is merely fine.
Compensation
- $30k-$60k
