About the role

Wofford College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of International Affairs to join its Department of Government and International Affairs starting in fall 2027.
EXPECTATIONS Wofford's faculty teach 3-1-3 load; the 1 indicates the January Interim course term in which professors may travel with students or teach on a variety of topics using experiential teaching methods.
QUALIFICATIONS A Ph.D. in Political Science, equivalent or closely related field.

Responsibilities

The college community supports 19 NCAA Division I athletics teams and numerous student organizations, including honor societies, professional organizations, faith-based organizations, Greek life, and club sports.

Requirements

A Ph.D. in Political Science, equivalent or closely related field. One-year full-time teaching experience or its equivalent.
We require candidates to be broadly trained in International Relations and Comparative Politics to have the ability to teach a range of introductory and upper-level International Relations and Comparative Politics courses. The successful candidate will be able to teach our introductory course in International Relations and a course on international institutions. We are also interested in applicants that could teach at least one of the following: international law, American foreign policy, Latin American politics, European politics, and/or introductory research methods. In addition, we value inclusive pedagogical approaches that aim to engage with a vibrant student community.

(1) a letter of application that addresses how the candidate is prepared to meet the specific needs of Wofford College's Government and International Affairs department and contribute to Wofford College's mission and core values.
(2) a curriculum vitae
(3) a teaching portfolio including sample syllabi, peer evaluation of teaching (if available), and a statement addressing the candidate's teaching philosophy. The teaching philosophy should include 1. an articulation of interest in, and understanding of, working at a residential, liberal arts college and at Wofford College, and 2. outline teaching interests. Candidates can submit additional materials to demonstrate their teaching qualifications.
(4) letters of support from three professional references
(5) an example of scholarly writing
(6) unofficial graduate transcripts.
