About the role

  • Responsible for the administration of anesthesia and anesthesia-related care in (1) Pre-Anesthetic preparation and evaluation
  • (2) Anesthesia induction, maintenance and emergence
  • Works collaboratively under the anesthesiologist and the overall direction of the OR Manager, Director of Surgical Services and Vice President of Patient Care Services.

Responsibilities

  • Is able to organize and set priorities when performing anesthesia duties and responsibilities. Performs psychological evaluations to assist in the development of rehabilitation plans for outpatients and inpatients
  • Competent to perform and/or monitor any procedure involving regional anesthesia, including labor epidural analgesia.
  • Administers the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic, to maintain the patient's physiologic homeostasis, and corrects abnormal responses to the anesthesia or surgery.
  • Capably manages the patient's airway and pulmonary status.
  • Manages emergence and recovery from anesthesia by administering medications, fluids, or ventilator support in order to maintain homeostasis, to provide relief from pain and anesthesia side effects, or to prevent or manage complications.
  • Capable of responding to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids or drugs, or basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques.
  • Checks all anesthesia equipment, i.e., gas machines, monitors, etc., prior to its use, to ensure the integrity of the system and documents.
  • Provides a comfortable environment for the patient and maintains patient dignity and identifies unsafe situations and reports to the appropriate person.
  • Reports pertinent patient data, observations and reactions to supervising anesthesiologist and documents observations accurately.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills to perform safe and effective patient care and/or interaction with all age groups.

Requirements

  • BLS Certification-must be maintained
  • ACLS Certification-must be maintained
  • PALS Certification-must be maintained
  • Demonstrates proficiency in all modes of administering general anesthesia.
  • Lifting 26 - 50 lbs - Occasionally
  • Carrying 26 - 50 lbs - Occasionally
  • Pushing/Pulling 26 - 50 lbs - Occasionally
  • Sliding/Transferring 26 - 50 lbs- Occasionally

Skills

  • Demonstrates good written and verbal communication skills.
