About the role

  • The Program-Based Float Pool Registered Nurse will provide direct and indirect nursing care within the assigned clinical program, supporting patient care needs across designated units and sites based on operational requirements, patient acuity, staffing needs, and established program priorities.
  • The successful candidate will be assigned to a home program and may be required to work across multiple units and/or Halton Healthcare sites, including Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, Milton District Hospital, and Georgetown Hospital, as applicable to the role and program needs.
  • This role is intended to support safe staffing, continuity of care, vacancy coverage, sick call replacement, leaves of absence, surge capacity, education support, and other short-term or emerging operational needs within the program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, identify changes in patient condition, and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with professional and organizational standards.

Requirements

  • Current Heart & Stroke approved Basic Life Support certification required at time of hire.
  • Recent clinical experience in [insert program or specialty area].
  • Demonstrated ability to provide safe, competent, evidence-informed nursing care within the assigned program.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across multiple units and/or sites, as required.
  • Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and escalate appropriately.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use clinical documentation systems.
  • May be required to assume charge nurse responsibilities where appropriate, based on experience, competency, and operational need.

Nice to have

  • Preference may be given to candidates who have:
  • Recent experience in more than one unit within the assigned program.
  • Experience working across multiple sites or clinical areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to changing clinical environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, preceptor, or charge nurse experience.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to the program.
  • Hours: Monday - Sunday, Various 8-hour shifts, on-call and holidays as required by the program - including scheduled on-call duties (hours are subject to change based on operational needs).

Compensation

  • $41.15 to $58.98 per hour
