About the role
- Employees may be promoted to a Hwy Construction Technician II position at a rate of $23.454 per hour upon acquiring the necessary certifications and demonstration of skills.
- Job Duties: Construction Technicians are responsible for field inspection of heavy highway construction projects.
- They verify the contractors' work is completed in accordance with the project plans and specifications.
Requirements
- Highway Construction Technician I: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.
- Highway Construction Technician II: Experience in performing activities pertinent to construction work such as surveying, materials testing, or field inspections.
- Also, applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.
- Construction Technicians perform materials testing on concrete, asphalt, soils, and other materials, as required.
- This position assists with snow removal on highways and may be required to operate snowplows during winter weather events.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.
- Experience in performing activities pertinent to construction work such as surveying, materials testing, or field inspections.
- Upon hire, you will be provided with the required training material.
- Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, walk long distances and work long hours, possibly weekends, in outdoor temperature extremes.
- Must be able to report to work within 45 minutes of notifications under normal conditions.
Nice to have
- Experience in surveying, road construction, materials testing, record keeping, trigonometry, and geometry.
- Possession of a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Experience in the operation of heavy equipment or snow removal equipment.
- Computer experience including work processing, spreadsheets, SiteManager, GEOPAK, and MicroStation software.
- Other: Must possess or be able to obtain a Class A or B CDL within 90 days of hire through our in-house CDL training program.
- Costs to obtain the permit will be paid for by the department.
- This position may require overnight travel.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
