About the role

  • Advanced ability to manipulate and analyze large, complex datasets; strong commercial acumen and understanding of Markel's strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Own the overall Power BI solution architecture and design principles for the team, ensuring reports and dashboards deliver strategic insights and actionable results for business stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements, implement best practices, and establish robust testing and documentation standards.
  • Work with large data sets to identify trends and develop actionable solutions that support insurance product strategic priorities.

Requirements

  • Power BI Mastery: Deep, demonstrable expertise with Power BI, including visualization design, data modeling, DAX proficiency, and understanding of administrative functions.
  • Data Modeling: 4-8 years of hands-on data modeling experience in an enterprise environment.
  • SQL Development: Proficiency in understanding relational databases and SQL development.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven experience leading and/or mentoring junior to mid-level technical staff, with a strong understanding of prioritization and delegation.
  • Coding Languages: Knowledge and experience with other coding languages such as Python.
  • Cloud Platform: Experience with the Microsoft Azure cloud.
  • Databricks: Experience with Databricks.
  • Insurance Industry Knowledge: Foundational knowledge of the insurance industry or a related financial services industry.
  • Azure DevOps: Experience with Azure DevOps for project management and deployment.

Nice to have

  • Track record of delivering value to organizations through reporting and analytics, ideally in the Insurance Industry.
