About the role
- Reporting to the General Foreman, the Commercial Carpenter is responsible for performing various construction duties as required for Hampton Roads Contracting, Inc.
- The Commercial Carpenter performs manual labor and may build, erect, install, and repair structures and other fixtures.
- This role performs general construction duties, including finish and rough carpentry, demolition, installation, and remodeling to support safe and efficient project completion.
Responsibilities
- Perform finish and trim carpentry, including installation of baseboards, crown molding, chair rails, wainscoting, and door/window casing.
- Perform remodeling and renovation work, including demolition, framing, and refurbishment.
- Use various hand and power tools to securely build assigned projects.
- Safely operate aerial lifts, including boom lifts and scissor lifts, and perform work at elevated heights.
- Clean, maintain, and secure all equipment as directed by management and company policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Previous construction carpentry experience required.
- Ability to read and comprehend engineered sketches and drawings.
- Ability to work long hours.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8-12 hours per day).
- Ability to lift/carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds frequently, and occasionally more with assistance.
- Ability to push and pull materials and tools.
- Ability to work on and navigate uneven surfaces and from heights.
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding as required for job tasks.
Nice to have
- Valid Driver's License and ability to operate company vehicles preferred.

- Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Read and interpret engineered drawings, sketches, and specifications.
- Measure, mark, cut, and assemble materials to precise layout and dimensions.
- Install and adjust interior/exterior doors, windows, ceiling tile, frames, hinges, and hardware.
- Install appliances, cabinetry, countertops, and built-ins to specifications.
- Inspect equipment/machinery for safe day-to-day operation and for general maintenance needs.
- Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment.
- Follow all safety protocols, job site regulations, and quality standards.
- Perform other miscellaneous general construction duties as needed for project completion, including other manual labor.
