Responsibilities
- At Alcoa Massena Operations, general mechanics install, repair, weld, prepare and layout work from blueprints, fabricate, maintain, and troubleshoot machinery and equipment including, piping systems, pumps, conveyor type systems, and work on various types of production equipment including aluminum reduction cells, cranes and furnaces.
Requirements
- Possess a High School degree or GED
- Ability to read layout drawings and blueprints
- Proven mechanical ability involving welding, fabricating, machinery installation, alignment, rigging, machining and the ability to work with precision to within a thousandth of an inch.
- Be willing to take a proficiency exam
- Valid NYS Journeyperson mechanical license or similar mechanic certification
- Proven mechanical ability involving welding, fabricating, machinery installation, alignment, rigging, machining and the ability to work with precision to within a thousandth of an inch. Good observational skills to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair machine problems are important
- Work from shop orders, blueprints, sketches and/or verbal information to layout, setup and operate metal working equipment such as shears, brake, rolls, drill press, power saws, welding machines, spot welders, etc. and use a regular range of hand tools to fabricate, repair and build iron work products
- Perform complicated mechanical repair or rebuild tasks on equipment
- Work with and provide assistance to other trades in performing repair operations
- Possess an excellent work history, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Be willing to work any shift, including rotating shifts and weekends

Compensation
- Standard rate: $37.71 USD per hour
