- Supports cross-departmental partnerships and communication among Pathologists, Pathologists' Assistants, hospital staff, and clients.

Skills
- Must be able to type 45 wpm and be familiar with Microsoft Office software
- Demonstrated technical skills and aptitudes related to the laboratory procedures performed in department or work area assigned
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
- Mature judgment and the ability to handle confidential information within applicable guidelines and regulations
- Ability to interact with infectious biological specimens, caustics, toxic chemicals, and/or irritants appropriately and safely
- Ability to communicate verbally and in written form with persons of varied backgrounds in a respectful, effective, and professional manner
- Ability to respond appropriately to buzzers, bells, flashing lights, and pagers, and work under pressure with time constraints
- Ability to concentrate and demonstrate excellent listening skills
- Ability to use an extensive array of professional reference materials as well as the Internet
- Knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices
- Must have knowledge of computerized transcription equipment
- Must have thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, laboratory medicine, and surgical procedures
