About the role
- We have three main manufacturing departments, Casting, Machining, and Press Assembly.
- Tasks and Responsibilities: As a Machining Engineer at Astemo Rock Spring, Inc., you will play a critical role in our Machining department.
- Reporting to the Machining Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for optimizing our machining processes to ensure efficient production and high-quality components.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and optimize machining processes, including selecting appropriate cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and machining parameters to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement machining strategies, programs, and best practices.
- Design and develop tooling, fixtures, and work holding solutions to enhance precision, reliability, and repeatability in machining operations.
- Utilize CAD/CAM software to create, modify, and optimize machining programs and tool paths.
- Support new product development by providing machining input, feasibility analysis, and process documentation.
- Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate, select, and implement new machining equipment and technologies.
- Provide technical support and training to machining technicians, troubleshooting issues and offering guidance as needed.
- Analyze data and interpret trends to identify areas for improvement and drive performance optimization.
- Support environmental initiatives and work towards minimizing the environmental impact of machining processes.
- Collaborate with the Quality Assurance teams to ensure that machining processes meet established quality standards.
Requirements
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing for extended periods, performing physically demanding tasks, and occasionally lifting heavy objects.
Nice to have
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in machining engineering or a similar role within the manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of machining principles, practices, and technologies, with a track record of implementing successful process optimization initiatives.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Skills
- Strong technical background in machining engineering, with expertise in machining processes, technologies, and best practices.
- Proficiency in CNC programming, CAD/CAM software, and machining simulation tools.
- Knowledge of cutting tools, tool materials, and their applications.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in using data analysis tools and software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Minimum Experienced Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, specializing in machining or manufacturing (advanced degree preferred).
- Proficiency in CNC programming, CAD/CAM software, and machining simulation tools, utilizing advanced software and tools effectively.
