Responsibilities

  • The Lab Assistant helps maintain a safe, organized, and productive studio environment and assists students with proper use of tools, equipment, and studio procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or general equivalency with proven experience with woodworking tools
  • 1 year related experience with Fine Woodworking processes and equipment such as table saws, planers, jointers, and lathes
  • Knowledge of safety procedures with all woodworking power tools and processes
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Associate's degree
  • Experience with maintenance and/or repair of woodworking machinery and tools
  • Experience working with ShopBot

Skills

  • Monitoring open studio/lab hours as scheduled each semester.
  • Ensuring that participating students sign into open labs and are currently enrolled in Fine Wood classes.
  • Assisting instructors as needed.
  • Monitoring and directing students in the care, proper cleaning, and maintenance of the studio and equipment.
  • Checking that all equipment is in good operating order.
  • Weekly inventory of both lab fee materials and consumables.

Compensation

  • Approximately 10 hours per week; maximum 499 hours per year.
