About the role

  • May work at computer for varying periods of the day.
  • Requires emotional stamina to handle the unexpected and stressful situations that may arise while working with participants undergoing specimen collections.

Responsibilities

  • Operates testing instrumentation and performs testing kits, evaluating results and reporting resorts according to established policies and procedures.
  • Performs and records necessary quality control procedures.
  • Performs clerical functions to include, but not limited to, completion of requisitions for reference lab testing at the hospital clinic, maintaining research databases, and filing completed test records and other regulatory documents.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Training in phlebotomy required.
  • If employed in the Cognitive Neuroscience department, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of transfer or hire required.
  • Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) certification within 30 days of transfer or hire required.

  • However, other duties may be required and assigned at times and as determined by a supervisor in order to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Ability to carry ten pounds constantly and to lift up to fifty pounds on occasion.
  • Must be able to hear and speak well enough to communicate instructions by spoken conversation and phone.
  • Must be able to see well enough to read labels, reports and computer screens.
  • Attends required staff meetings and mandatory in-services.

Nice to have

  • Experience with pediatric phlebotomy and biospecimen collection preferred.

Skills

  • Ability to adhere to policies and procedures as they relate to communication and collection of biospecimens, blood and body fluid samples.
  • Ability to have dedication and concern for the health and welfare of others.
  • Ability to adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Must maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Must have the ability to work well with infants, children and adults of all abilities.
