About the role

  • SUMMARY OF DUTIES Reports to the Superintendent, Fleet Service Garages, or designate.

Responsibilities

  • Provides non-technical shop, yards, stores, cleaning, parts, equipment movement, minor repair, and administrative support to Fleet Services garage operations.
  • Maintains, moves, receives, stores and issues shop supplies and materials; assists licensed tradespersons with non-technical tasks; supports shop housekeeping, safety, environmental handling, tool control and inventory processes; and performs related duties as assigned.
  • Be advised that Human Resources frequently audits resumes of internal/external applicants to ensure/validate information provided is consistent and trustworthy.

Requirements

  • Proof of valid Class "G" or "DZ" licence is required after hire, as applicable to City policy.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Lift Truck Operator certificate and any other required equipment, safety or internal training certifications.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, WHMIS, safe material handling, spill response, environmental handling of waste products, and applicable Fleet Services safe work procedures.
  • Operates overhead cranes, hoists, mobile lifting devices, front-end loaders, forklifts and other yard/shop equipment where trained, certified, authorized and required.
  • Previous experience related to shop, garage, yard, stores, maintenance, minor repair, cleaning, parts handling, inventory support or comparable work, normally acquired through a combination of education and related work experience.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and perform a variety of tasks safely and accurately, including operating vehicles, handling supplies, assisting tradespersons and performing simple shop-support duties.
  • Ability to perform janitorial, material-handling, shop-support and minor-repair duties, including carrying, lifting, loading, unloading, moving and storing supplies and materials used in Fleet operations.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class "G" driver's licence, with preference for Class "D" with "Z" endorsement.
  • Basic computer, record-keeping and arithmetic skills sufficient to assist with shop records, inventory counts, parts/supply lists, tool tracking and related administrative duties.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, communicate effectively with supervisors, tradespersons, parts/inventory staff and internal customers, and maintain a safe, clean and organized shop environment.
  • Salary Grade D
  • 40 per week
