About the role
- AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY 11 AND 12 (two cohorts) A Ministry-developed curriculum course delivered through the Classics for Kids programme.
- Communicate with families about student progress and participate in reporting and conference cycles.
- Establish, teach and consistently enforce shop-safety procedures, differentiated for Grade 8 and senior students.
Responsibilities
- Develop course plans, unit plans, lessons, demonstrations, assignments and assessments appropriate to each grade level and to students with varying technical experience.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, achievement, incidents, safety training and student progress.
- maintain active supervision during all practical activities.
- Perform other related duties appropriate to the position.
- Conduct safety orientations and assess student readiness before permitting independent use of tools or equipment; maintain active supervision during all practical activities.
Requirements
- Experience planning and delivering instruction, training, coaching or mentorship.
- Experience working effectively with secondary-school-aged students or youth, at both junior and senior levels.
- Strong knowledge of automotive-shop safety procedures and the safe use of hand, power, pneumatic, diagnostic, lifting and fabrication equipment.
- The ability to assess technical skills and provide clear, constructive feedback.
- The ability to successfully complete a Criminal Record Check for work with children and vulnerable adults.
Nice to have
- The following would be considered assets:
- Red Seal endorsement, SkilledTradesBC certification or another recognized automotive, mechanical, welding, fabrication or autobody credential.
- Professional experience with classic-car restoration, engine repair, vehicle diagnostics, metal fabrication or custom automotive projects.
- Experience safely supervising students or employees in a workshop, automotive or construction environment.
- Current Occupational First Aid, WHMIS or other relevant safety training.
- Candidates who do not currently hold a B.C. teaching certificate but possess significant specialized automotive expertise may be considered where no suitable certified teacher is available.
