About the role

  • Summary A Yard Driver assists in the movement of trailers in and out of the docks and around the yards as necessary.
  • A Yard Driver assists in the organization and maintenance of trailers in our yard.

Responsibilities

  • Safely drive a commercial motor vehicle (tractor-trailer).
  • Perform and document pre- and post-trip inspections.
  • Operate in a constant state of alertness, get in and out of the cab on your own, and safely drive both automatic and manual transmissions.

Requirements

  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
  • Must be approved by the compliance department on all DOT and Saddle Creek Transportation requirements prior to driving for Saddle Creek Transportation.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record per policy.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screenings, background checks, and achieve acceptable responses in Previous Employment Verifications.
  • Must have at least 2 years' experience driving a tractor-trailer in the past 3 years.
  • Maintain all DOT required licenses and documentation, as well as any other necessary paperwork.
  • Must have working knowledge of DOT rules and regulations, and can adhere to these rules.

  • Yard Drivers are occasionally required to go over public roads for movement of trailers, fueling purposes, or to take a delivery run.
  • Must be able to work independently and should demonstrate good customer service skills.
