About the role

  • SUMMARY The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. (AEU) is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Manager to join our growing finance team.
  • The Accounting Manager will play a key role in financial reporting, accounting operations, and guiding the finance team in their professional development.
  • The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills combined with exceptional communication and collaboration abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Perform detailed financial analysis, identify trends, and present findings to management.
  • Implement process improvements and the adoption of new accounting systems and technologies.
  • Mentor and support accounting staff, offering guidance and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and support business decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 4+ years of accounting experience, with 2+ years in public accounting.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Power BI).
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to approach challenges creatively, offering practical solutions in complex financial situations.

Nice to have

  • CPA is preferred.
  • Managerial experience preferred
  • Insurance industry experience is a plus.

Compensation

  • Oversee preparation of financial statements, including quarterly board meeting financials and coordination of annual audit as primary contact with external auditor.
