  • Job Description Summary Organization's Summary Statement: The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) located in Princess Anne, Maryland invites applications for a Research Assistant position in the Department of Engineering.
  • The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of annual renewal based on performance and continued funding.
  • Contingent Category II employees may participate in the State Health Insurance Program and Prescription Plans that are available to state employees.

Responsibilities

  • Research Design & Execution: Lead and conduct experimental studies involving neuron cell culture and study, biomolecular analysis; develop hypotheses, design protocols, and perform data analysis.
  • Collaboration & Innovation: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (e.g., engineers, biologists); contribute innovative ideas to ongoing projects and initiate new research directions.
  • Lab Management Support: Assist the principal investigator in managing lab operations, maintaining equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and ethical standards, and overseeing purchasing and inventory.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in RT-PCR, flow cytometry, atomic force microscopy, tissue culture, biological sample analysis, neuron cell culture and biomolecular analysis.
  • The successful candidate must be able to show acceptable documentation establishing the right to accept employment in the United States of America without employer sponsorship.

Compensation

  • The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of annual renewal based on performance and continued funding.

Benefits

  • Benefits other than leave are subject to change by action of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, the University System of Maryland, or the State of Maryland.
  • The minimum benefits to be provided to all Contingent Category II employees, on an annual basis, are listed below.
  • These benefits shall be prorated for contracts of less than one year and for less than full-time employment.
  • The Contingent Category II benefits include five (5) days of accrued annual leave
  • three (3) days of accrued sick leave
  • Additionally, Contingent II employees may participate in supplemental retirement plans approved by the State of Maryland and the USM per laws and regulations.
