About the role
- About the opportunity Pearson is expanding the engineering capability behind OnVUE.
- We have opportunities for strong senior individual contributors and for engineers ready to combine hands-on development with squad leadership.

Responsibilities
- Design and deliver complex, distributed full-stack solutions using Java, Spring Boot, Angular and REST APIs.
- Build and operate highly available, scalable enterprise applications.
- Contribute to technical design, estimation, roadmap planning and platform modernisation.
- Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for critical production issues.
- Partner with Quality Engineering to strengthen testing, automation and quality by design.
- Support release planning, deployment, observability, security and operational readiness.
- For the squad-lead pathway, coordinate day-to-day squad delivery, remove blockers and take responsibility for team outcomes.
- Strong software design, system architecture, troubleshooting and engineering-quality skills.
- For the squad-lead pathway, demonstrated technical leadership, mentoring and ownership of team delivery. This may come from formal or informal leadership experience.
- Senior Software Engineer, Squad Lead: $135,000 - $145,000
Requirements
- At least five years of professional software development experience.
- Experience designing and delivering complex, distributed enterprise systems.
- Clear communication and the ability to explain technical decisions and trade-offs to different audiences.
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with Azure, Kubernetes, cloud-native delivery, DevOps and CI/CD would be valuable.
Compensation
- Compensation at Pearson is influenced by factors including skill set, experience, location and the scope of responsibilities associated with the role selected through the hiring process. The full-time salary range for:
- Senior Software Engineer: $120,000 - $130,000
- Senior Software Engineer, Squad Lead: $135,000 - $145,000
