About the role

  • To return to the OmniOn Power website, click here.
  • The Technology team is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer in the Systems Development group.
  • This role focuses on the development of advanced power system technologies and solid-state protection solutions for next-generation power system products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new products, including architecture definition, circuit concepts, schematics, and validation through lab testing and characterization.
  • Develop and implement ground fault detection methods and protection schemes, including sensing, detection algorithms, and system-level response working with firmware and other system team members.
  • Design analog and digital circuitry for high-accuracy measurement of key system parameters such as voltage, current, and temperature, including signal conditioning, sensing topology selection, and ADC interface considerations.
  • Electro-thermal co-design or collaborating heavily with mechanical engineers on advanced cooling strategies (e.g., liquid cooling, high-performance heatsinks).
  • Create schematics using Allegro Concept and review/validate PCB layouts for signal integrity, power distribution, and thermal considerations.
  • Mitigate EMC/EMI issues through proper design practices, filter design, and system-level layout reviews including busbars and cable routing.
  • Collaborate across cross-functional teams (manufacturing, sourcing, global engineering, systems engineering) to develop and support production-ready designs.
  • Participate in the full product lifecycle, including design, validation, release to manufacturing, and sustaining activities.
  • Assure all designs meet requirements including performance, time-to-market, cost targets, and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in the review of customer and market requirements (RFQs) and develop system-level and custom design solutions leveraging existing platforms.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate has deep expertise in power electronics, particularly high-voltage DC systems, and is motivated to innovate in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • The candidate must be comfortable working closely with cross-functional team members including mechanical engineers, manufacturing, marketing, sourcing, lab technicians, and others.
  • Hands-on design experience with discrete wide-bandgap (WBG) devices (SiC, GaN) and traditional silicon (MOSFETs, IGBTs) in high-efficiency switching topologies.
  • Proven experience designing solid-state protection systems (eFuses, SCCBs) and ground fault detection schemes in DC systems.
  • Direct experience debugging and solving tough EMC/EMI challenges at the system and component level.

Nice to have

  • High-level proficiency with schematic capture and layout review tools (ideally Cadence Allegro / Concept HDL).
  • Strong background in high-accuracy analog/mixed-signal measurement circuits (voltage, current, and temperature sensing) including error budgeting and calibration.

Company info

  • Design and implement high-voltage DC (HVDC) circuits (e.g., ±400V, 800V DC) including solid-state switching and protection solutions such as solid-state circuit breakers (SCCB), eFuses, and fault protection devices that can be implemented as part of a system's distribution architecture.
