About the role
- They assist in overall unit flow including supporting patients and medical staff by answering incoming calls, organizing information, and duties related to admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
- The unit secretary works collaboratively with unit based clinical staff and other departments to coordinate off unit testing and appointments.
- The unit secretary is professional and welcoming to all patients, families, visitors, and staff.
Responsibilities
- With a commitment to patient- and family-centered care, performs a variety of clerical duties, including data entry into Hospital Information System to support the operations of the unit.
- The unit secretary works with unit leadership and supply chain to help support the inventory needs of the unit.
Requirements
- Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively.
Nice to have
- diploma or equivalent
- Data entry experience preferred.
- Physical Demands
- Lift and carry 40-50 lbs.
- Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight.
- Frequent to continuous standing/walking.
- Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
