About the role
- This is a hands-on product role for someone who can operate at both the architecture level and the last-10%-of-the-product level.
- You should care as much about system architecture as you do about the details that determine whether a product actually feels finished in the field: accessory quality, LED behavior, cable routing, installation flow, and overall polish.
- This role is a strong fit for product managers who have gone deep on hardware and embedded systems, or for hardware, embedded, or systems engineers who want to move into product.
Responsibilities
- Key commercial video hardware products. Lead product development for high-priority commercial video devices, beginning with PoE cameras.
- ODM partner direction and product shaping.
- Work directly with ODM partners to evaluate platforms, select components, solidify specifications, and drive execution.
- Installer and field experience. Review products from the perspective of the installer and end user. Identify friction in mounting, wiring, accessory kits, setup, and deployment, and drive improvements before those issues reach the field.
- Own decisions and feedback on the details that shape quality, including industrial/mechanical details, status indicators, packaging inputs, in-box accessories, and setup experience.
- Lead key launches end to end, including launch-critical issue resolution and post-launch prioritization.
- Partner with engineering, QA, operations, design, and PMM to ensure products ship at the right quality bar and continue improving after release.
- Cross-functional decision making. Work across hardware, firmware, software, operations, design, quality, and go-to-market teams. Engineering owns implementation; you own the product outcome.
- Alarm.com offers a diverse and dynamic environment where you will get the chance to work directly with executives and develop expertise across multiple areas of the business.
- You will own products across hardware, firmware, and software over their full lifecycle.
Requirements
- You can engage credibly on device architecture, component tradeoffs, and system constraints.
- Ability to operate across hardware, firmware, and software.
- You can reason about the full system and make good prioritization calls across disciplines.
- You are comfortable owning a hardware product beyond the physical device itself.
- You are willing to open the box, inspect the accessory bag, walk through the install flow, and test assumptions yourself.
- You push for excellence, but you are practical about getting products to market.
- Experience driving complex cross-functional work.
- Experience shipping cameras, IoT devices, networking hardware, or other connected devices
- Experience in video surveillance, physical security, or commercial device ecosystems
- Familiarity with installer-driven products or products deployed in real-world commercial environments
