About the role
- OpenLoop is looking for an Principal Engineer, AI Labs who is both a technical authority and a hands-on builder.
- You'll be writing production code, owning system architecture, and setting technical direction for how our infrastructure scales-while still jumping into the trenches when needed.
Responsibilities
- Own system design on GCP (Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, BigQuery), including service boundaries, schemas, and reliability trade-offs.
- Lead development of event-driven data pipelines using Airflow, Spark, ETL, and Big Data tooling.
- Drive AI platform integration using open-source LLMs, embeddings, and speech models
- Partner closely with Product, Design, and Clinical Ops to translate complex technical constraints into clear execution paths.
- 5+ years as a Tech Lead or project lead.
Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of GCP networking and data services.
Nice to have
- 12+ years of software engineering experience
- Principal-level scope or equivalent impact.
- Expert-level proficiency in Go, Python, or TypeScript/Node, with strong code review skills.
- Deep experience with distributed systems, containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud Run), and event-driven architectures.
- Hands-on experience with open-source LLM hosting (vLLM, Ollama) and modern RAG architectures.
- Strong written and verbal communication
- comfortable authoring RFCs and technical strategy docs.
