About the role

  • The Safety Coordinator is responsible for coordinating assigned aspects of the ALS Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) for Waterloo and associated Service Centres.

Responsibilities

  • Lead incident management including investigation, reporting, and follow up;
  • Coordinate and maintain contractor management induction, insurance, and documentation;
  • Maintain and update SDS records stored on- site;
  • Maintain emergency response procedures including scheduling drills and inspections;
  • Complete employee fit tests and maintain the respiratory protection program

Nice to have

  • Minimum of 1-year experience in a Laboratory environment is preferred;

Skills

  • Excellent English communication skills are mandatory (auditory, verbal, written, and reading);
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills;
  • Ability to speak in public and effectively present information to groups;
  • Proven time management skills, including handling escalations and time-critical issues;
  • Able to stay current in an ever-changing environment
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), with competent computer skills;
  • Ability to travel to other ALS locations within Ontario (e.g. service centres) on regular basis
  • Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.

Compensation

  • Work with HSE Manager, Canada Environmental and location managers to implement all new and existing ALS health and safety programs and annual HSE strategies
