About the role
- The Industrial Power Systems Division has an exciting opportunity for a Diesel Mechanic in Mossville, Illinois.
- Individuals will work on experimental, pre-production, post-production and legacy engines that range in size from 0.5 to 18L.
- 2nd Shift: Tuesday - Friday, 12:00PM - 10:00PM
Responsibilities
- Apply engineering theory and design
- Assist install builds in various stages on both gaseous fuel and diesel type engines
- Install necessary test leads, thermocouples, cylinder pressure pick-up gauges, and instrumented test components
- Perform adjustments on valve train, gear train, fuel system, cooling system, and oil system
- Assemble entire unit of a new design or the buildup of subassemblies
- Evaluate and determine reusability of engine hardware during engine builds
- Initiate possible changes in design to correct failure, and use data gained while performing assembly/disassembly or dismantling or construction to produce quality engines
- Ability to think critically with minimal support or instruction
- Previous experience in the design and testing of engines
Requirements
- 3+ years' experience in diesel engine service or repair industry or a 2-year technical degree majoring in diesel power technology, industrial/engine power technology or Caterpillar Dealer Service Technology
- 5+ years' mechanical experience with diesel engines
