About the role
- We're hiring a Senior Data Engineer for our cloud data team in pediatric research.
- Serves as a technical owner accountable for architecture quality, operability, and continuous improvement.
- Oversees the documentation of systems and processes for future reference and training purposes.
Responsibilities
- Leads the design, development, testing, and maintenance of applications and pipelines supporting informatics and genomics analyses within an interdisciplinary team of developers, scientists, and clinical and research stakeholders.
- You'll design and maintain production ETL/ELT pipelines and our data lake that turn genomics, clinical, and imaging data into reliable datasets for scientific discovery.
- Designs usability testing and validation processes and develops procedures for technical support and troubleshooting of system issues.
- Mentors and supports less experienced programmers through design review, pair programming, and formal coaching. Collaborates effectively with research and clinical leadership, faculty, and staff.
- Designs and implements system and architecture enhancements to improve performance and reliability of data generation, analysis, and interpretation.

Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or relevant field, or equivalent experience, required.
Nice to have
- Experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives, including decomposing roadmaps into milestones and measurable outcomes, preferred.
- Deep hands-on AWS is essential-Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, S3, Lake Formation, Athena-plus advanced Python, strong data modeling/SQL, and IaC (CloudFormation or SAM).
- Work happens in a HIPAA/NIST 800-171-compliant environment, so experience in regulated settings is a plus.
- Master's Degree or PhD, preferred.
Skills
- Expert knowledge of front-end and/or back-end programming languages, as well as technical troubleshooting approaches.
- Deep knowledge of database design, development, and maintenance.
- Ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision and to identify, collect, and analyze data.
- 5 years of experience in development, required.
- 4 years of experience in full stack development, preferred.
- Experience with cloud computing environments, including containerization technologies, preferred.
- Experience producing applications or pipelines aligned with defined product requirements, preferred.
